To give you an idea of where it all began, let's rewind to September of last year. I met a friend for a drink at the Old 77 hotel, and a kind man offered to scoot down and let me sit. I was fine standing, but that's not really the point. He was a nice guy, obviously working on something important on his laptop. My friend and I had a short conversation with him and found out that he was an author. Obviously we kind of nerded out and brought up our amazing book club!
"Have you written anything we may have heard of?"
He totally down played the fact that his best selling "Wayward Pines" trilogy was also a hit tv show with a pretty A-list cast! He also told us about "Dark Matter" which is another one of his best sellers. I mean, he was so normal and laid back, we had no clue that we were talking to someone who's kind of a big deal!
Now let's take it to January of this year. (I know, it's terrible that I waited so long...) The same friend I met for drinks messaged our book club and mentioned a sale on the first book of the "Wayward Pines" trilogy. I downloaded it right away and dove in. In high school I really enjoyed science fiction, but I hadn't really read any good sci-fi in recent years. I didn't do much research on the series, and if I'm being honest, I had never watched the show. I was totally unbiased but excited to read something by the super cool author that I met in real life!
I was intrigued from the very beginning and zoomed through the first, immediately getting the rest of the series to read as well. Lucky for me, our book club also selected "Dark Matter" as our January book.
I get serious book ADD and have read up to 4 books at a time, but I had to give each of Blake Crouch's books one on one attention. I noticed some similarities in characters, but I think it's just part of his unique writing style.
"Dark Matter" captivated me from the first chapter and I kept picturing it as if it were a movie. Low and behold, that's totally going to be a thing! Apparently he's in the works right now for a Dark Matter movie and I cannot wait! My book club had one of the most intense discussions we've ever had over this book. I'm sure that means nothing to you, but we talk A LOT.... I was impressed by how passionate everyone felt about their opinions of this story (no spoilers, we pretty much all loved it!)
I know, I'm not telling you anything about anything regarding the plot, but if you love a good sci-fi suspense novel, then give it a try!
Let me know what you think if you do end up reading it! But please don't spoil anything for others! Feel free to email me if you want a more in depth opinion!
